THE hunt is on to find any living descendants of a Redditch man who donated a fountain to the town in 1883.

Moves are being made to find relatives of RS Bartleet in the hope they will be able to unveil the revamped fountain later this month.

Restoration firm Lost Arts has almost finished work to the fountain, which was given to the town to mark the piping of fresh water to Redditch.

Kevin Cook, of Redditch Council, said: "The work has been carried out for free and in return, Lost Arts has taken casts of the artwork so they can be used in the future.

"Everything should be finished at the end of next week."

He added: "We really would like to find any relatives of RS Bartleet as we are planning a big opening event to mark the restoration 120 years after the fountain was first in place.

"We have been trying to find members of the family but as yet, we haven't had any joy.

"We plan to put up a plaque to commemorate the event and floodlights are going to be installed around the fountain so it becomes a real focal point in the town centre."
