A CHARITY football match has been set up in memory of a Redditch man who lost his battle against cancer on his 26th birthday.
Former Arrow Vale High School pupil Lee Thorp died on August 18 after being diagnosed with cancer in April.
Lee had played for several football teams and at the time of his death, played for Mappleborough Green FC - the squad his dad Derek manages.
And on Sunday, November 9, his friends and team mates will be playing against Blues All Stars to raise money for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital's young persons cancer unit, where he was looked after.
Derek Thorp, 51, above right with former Blues player Paul Hendrie, said: "The match will be in Lee's name. We talked about doing something to raise money for the hospital when Lee was still with us. After he died, we felt as though we really needed to go ahead with it.
"We'll also be auctioning signed footballs from Birmingham and Aston Villa and hopefully something from Liverpool too."
The match will be held at Studley FC ground and kick-off is 11am.
