BROMSGROVE'S colourful carnival procession could be cancelled if extra marshals cannot be found to lead it through the town.

A new procession leader is needed to head-up the fundraising extravaganza of floats, which are set to take to the streets on June 19 next year.

Although there are still more than eight months until the grand event, the Bromsgrove Carnival committee has plans well under way and urgently needs a procession leader.

Members want any potentials for the role to attend their annual general meeting, which is due to be held at the Hanover International Hotel, on November 6.

The Kidderminster Road meeting will start at 8pm.

Carnival committee chairman Jeff Evans, from Aston Fields, said: "The procession is very important to the carnival as it raises nearly £3,000 every year. It is lots of hard work, but we will give anyone who takes the job lots of support."

Interested candidates must be at least 18 and organised.

They are needed to stop the traffic and lead the procession through the streets, and groups of people, as well as individuals, will be considered.

"It will be a real shame if we have to cancel next year's procession because we do not have a leader, not to mention losing the best part of £3,000," added Jeff. "Once the procession is gone we may never get back and that must not happen. We want someone to come forward and help save our procession."
