TWO town mums have been rewarded for their efforts to help youngsters improve their reading.

Debbie Lippett and Tricia Clark attended a gala prize-giving ceremony at County Hall in Worcester where they were presented with certificates which recognised their hard work and their dedication.

The helpful mums have been involved in the Better Reading Partnership at Meadows First School in Stourbridge Road for the last 12 months.

The aim of the countywide scheme is to encourage children to be independent and fluent in their reading, through offering the additional support of volunteer parents.

Parents receive training into how to become better support assistants, which can be useful with groups of school children, as well as their own youngsters at home.

Headteacher Pam Townsend said: "It is an excellent scheme and we are very grateful to all the parents who took part in it. It has been extremely beneficial to the children."
