A SERIOUS accident happened in Droitwich when a Miss Perks, from Oakland Cottage, and her companion Mrs Jones, who was in the Spa to take the waters, were flung from the carriage they were travelling in when a trace broke and the pony bolted. Fortunately a medic at the brine baths saw the accident and bound Mrs Jones' broken ankle. Her doctor was summoned from Birmingham but advised against amputating her foot as her condition was too frail.

BROMSGROVE'S MP Austen Chamberlain, the member for East Worcestershire, was elevated from Post Master General to Chancellor of the Exchequer in the recent Cabinet reshuffle. The 44-year-old, who had only been in politics for 12 years, was set to make a speech in Bromsgrove next week. It would be the first time a Chancellor had addressed a meeting in the town.

DISGRACEFUL goings-on at Wychbold recreation ground by youngsters using foul language and making excessive noise prompted Dodderhill Parish council to order it to be closed on Sundays. Angry residents said they were forced to close their doors and windows to prevent their children listening to the swearing.

AN outbreak of measles had closed Stourbridge Road School in Bromsgrove, while scarlet fever had likewise caused Catshill School to shut its doors to pupils.

THE first of a new series of bi-monthly Sunday services exclusively for working men was held at St John's church in Bromsgrove. The Messenger reported that a large congregation listened the Rev Whinfield's sermon with "marked attention."
