GOOD weights taken last Tuesday at the Northfield Starlets Veterans event at Greenhill Fishery near Hallow.

Bewdley's Derek Buckle pole fished meat over corn at Old pool peg two to net an impressive catch of 105-14-0. Billy Wright (Northfield) waggler fished meat at New pool peg 16 for 84-10-0; third, John Cole (Bewdley), 68-14-0.

At Woodland View, the affordable open was held on Deans pool. Leading a strong line-up was Matt Linforth (Peg One Woodlands) who pole fished the margins at peg 32 with corn and meat for 113-0-0 of Carp. Second placed Steve Pickup (Fishermans Friend) had 76-13-0; third, Tim Guise (Mosella Slapheads), 62-8-0.

On Wednesday, the Woodland View over 50s contest saw Tim Guise move up into first place when he pole fished chopped worms and casters at Deans peg 38 for 55-5-0. Mike Williams (Phoenix Shrewsbury) took second with 48-2-0 while third went to Terry Robson's (20 AC) 46-10-0.

The West Midlands Civil Service held its annual cup contest at Woodcote Hall near Telford. Barry Price (Hall Green) was a clear winner by method feeder fishing with worm on the hook at Main pool peg 19 to take 16 Carp for 39-7-0. Graham Upton had a late surge to take second place with 26-13-0 and yours truly Tony Brunn was third with 26-5-0.

Thursday saw the KH Veterans at Barbourne pool, Cotheridge. Husband and wife duo Reg and Doreen Putnam (Quinton) had a good day with Reg in first place with 25-0-0 of mixed fish taken with pole and meat from peg 28. Doreen was third with 19-0-0 and Stan James (Bewdley) was second with 21-0-0.

The Midland Bears AA were at Broad Acres' Main lake and new member Chris Ball from Droitwich Spa showed the way by pole fishing catmeat over casters at peg 32 for 46-11-0. Second, Dave Evans (Shirley), had 29-13-0; third, Dave Williams (Kidderminster), 19-1-0.

On Friday, the Moorlands Farm costcutter open was won by John Cockayne (Fosters Tipton) by pole fishing corn at Meadow pool peg 13 for 109-4-0. Runner-up Dave Hill (Fosters MG) had 105-0-0 and third was Bob Jones (A&D) with 86-2-0.

Saturday saw the first round of the teams of four Moorlands Farm winter league. Top individual was Giles Cochrane (No Hopers) in bitter conditions who alternated waggler and pole with corn to take a 116-6-0 catch. Second, Steve Pearce (Ringers), 1032-10-0; third, Lee Richards (Top 4's), 95-5-0. The top team was No Hopers with 15 points; DGL 18 and Top 4's 20.

Lucas College Road AC held its annual contest on the River Alne at Kinwarton near Alcester. Topping the list was Northfield matchman Jim Pedley who again found a bonus four-pound Barbel to boost his winning catch to 4-3-0 by ledgering worms at peg 11. Club secretary Stan Jones was second with 2-6-12 with third going to Fred Penn's 1-13-8.

The CIU annual championships saw 25 teams of five compete at Woodland View. The top individual was Wayne Ainsworth (Yardley Wood Social) who pole fished corn and meat at Hay pool peg nine for 123-2-0. Carl Gibbons (Sedgeley WMC) took 82-5-0 for second with third going to Dave Feasey (Alcester Trades & Labour) with 71-12-0. Yardley Wood Social are this years champions with 17 points; Cradley Heath Labour Blue 30, Sedgley WMC A 37.

On Sunday, the Woodland View's open went to Alan Jones (DGL) with a pole, worm and caster catch of 70-10-0 from High pool peg 28. Second, Tim Guise (Mosella Slapheads), had 66-4-0; third, Mick Jones (Mosella Slapheads), 64-14-0.

The Birmingham Anglers Association individual annual canal championships were held on the Staffs-Worcs Canal between Stourport and Kidderminster. Topping a strong frame was Mark Bunn (Vine AC) who was staked three pegs to the left of bridge nine where he pole fished casters to take eight Chub for 9-6-0. Mark Jones (Durmec AC) was runner-up, taking 7-9-0; third, Keith Woodhead (100 AC), 6-9-0. The 100 AC team consisting of Keith Woodhead, yours truly Tony Brunn and Martin Tremlett won the Welfare Cup with a 15-5-0 total.

At Astwood Fishery the Buddleia pool open was won by Paul Savings (Sheldon Heath) with a mixed catch of 35-3-0 by pole fishing maggots at peg 55. Second was Max Trower's (Astwood) 28-3-0; third, Eric Bishop (Astwood), 20-3-0.

The Moorlands Farm Bank and Meadow pools open was headed by Lee Richards (Lifestyle) who short pole fished corn at Bank peg 24 for 101-3-0. Runner-up Chris Hill (Fosters) had 87-4-0 and joint third was Clive Munslow (Shakespeare) and Chris Cameron (DGL) with 82-5-0.

Ricky Keenan (Triplex) was the clear winner of the Broad Acres Top pool open with a pole, caster and corn catch of 58-9-0 from peg six. Club mate Steve Brelsforth was second with 36-6-0; third, Bill Drew (Solihull Angling), 34-4-0.
