BROMSGROVE Rovers have finally ended their striker quest by bringing in Michael Swan from Hednesford Town.

Weeks of searching by manager George Rooney was rewarded when Swan switched from the Dr Martens Premier side, beaten in the FA Cup by Rovers last month, on Monday.

The 20-year-old, now contracted at the Victoria Ground, won the Midland Combination Reserve Division golden boot last season while playing for Tamworth's second string before his move to Keys Park in the summer.

Rooney said: "He's got potential. He's a boy we tried to sign in the summer but we had to wait until Hednesford were ready to make some changes."

Swan has been on the bench all season and played eight minutes as a substitute against Ilkeston last night. He is also cup tied for this Saturday's FA Cup Third Qualifying Round trip to Congleton Town (3pm) after playing against Rovers as a substitute in the last round. Congleton beat Hucknall Town 3-2 after extra time last week.

Swan is the second Hednesford striker to join Rovers after Mark Jones, currently injured, arrived on loan earlier this season.

Although Rovers have gone six games unbeaten, they need goals from the front with central defender and skipper Steve Pope top scorer on five.

Mark Atkinson and Jones are the leading strikers with two goals apiece while Sam Bowen is on one and Peter Sutton is yet to get off the mark.
