BROMSGROVE Rovers continued their impressive run of form with a 3-0 victory over Ilkeston Town in the Dr Martens Western Division at the Victoria Ground last night.

Two Steve Frost goals and a Marcus Jackson fluke goal inside 21 minutes gave George Rooney's side the points, leaving them unbeaten in six league and cup matches.

The hosts, missing Steve Pope with flu, took the lead three minutes in when Jackson's left wing cross swerved in the air, catching Andy Lowe off guard and the Ilkeston goalkeeper could only help the ball home.

Rovers made it 2-0 nine minutes later when Danny Scheppel's ball into the penalty area was headed over Lowe by Frost.

Rooney's men extended their lead on 21 minutes. Grant Beckett sent over an excellent right wing corner and an unmarked Frost headed powerfully home.

The defender should have had his hat-trick four minutes later, but after Lowe failed to hold on to a Mark Benbow free-kick, Frost blazed over from six yards.

The half then ground to a halt with Rovers, looking the more dangerous, happy with their lead.

Ilkeston edged a lacklustre second half with their best chance falling to Chris Thompson, but he put the ball past the near post from a left wing cross.

Mark Atkinson, who caused havoc with his pace along with Jackson all evening, had a chance for a fourth eight minutes from time. Jackson's through ball found the former Aston Villa trainee in space, but his effort was well blocked by Lowe.

Rovers: Wyatt 6, Frost 8*, Hillman 7, Banner 6, Benton 7, Beckett 8, Jackson 7, Scheppel 7, Sutton (Swan, 76) 6, Benbow 7, Atkinson (Dawson, 90) 8. Subs not used: Gandy, Tomkins, Henry. Attendance: 356.

Worcester City youth team beat Blackheath Town 1-0 in the first round of the Midland Floodlit Youth League cup at St George's Lane last night.

Defender Arran Mason scored the goal with a header from a corner.
