WICKETKEEPER Steve Adshead, who made a handful of appearances for Worcestershire last season, is poised to revive his county career with Gloucestershire.

The 24-year-old from Redditch was drafted in on a temporary basis by the County when Steve Rhodes and James Pipe were on the injury list, making two appearances in both the County Championship and Twenty20 Cup. He also played in the one-day game against South Africa.

Adshead previously had three seasons with Leicestershire and played Minor Counties cricket for Shropshire last season.

He impressed Gloucestershire in a number of Second XI games and they have offered him the chance to understudy Jack Russell and eventually succeed the former England wicketkeeper.

Gloucestershire chief executive Tom Richardson said: "We are obviously looking for a long-term replacement for Jack and there is an opening there."
