REDS boss Rod Brown is hoping to add to his injury hit team with a seven-day approach for two new players, writes Matt Smith.

Left-sided Solihull Borough midfielder Dave Hayward is on Brown's hitlist along with central defender Gary Sucharewycz from Leek Town.

Brown said: "I'm fairly confident in securing these players by tomorrow night at the latest and they should be ready for next Tuesday's league game against Evesham.

"We're short of defenders at the moment and Gary is a player a lot of clubs are interested in.

"He's moving jobs at the moment and a move this way would suit him."

A defender would be just the tonic for the Reds with long- term injury doubts over Neil Manton and Matty Gardiner. Gary Knight and Quentin Townsend are also still recovering on the physio's table.

And with Sucharewycz they will have a quality defender - he joined Leek Town from Matlock Town in 2002 and was voted players player of the year in his debut season.

But even with so many injury worries Swindon Supermarine were no match for the mighty Reds on Saturday which lifted the Bromsgrove Road men five points clear at the top of the Dr Martens Western division.

Goals either side of the break from Lee Ross (17) and Richard Burgess (70) made sure of a comfortable 2-0 win.

Brown added: "In the light of the week's events it was good result and leaves us with some breathing space at the top."
