THE biggest consultation exercise the town's Labour party has ever done has been launched to gather residents' views on how the council is run.

Reach Out to Redditch aims to find out what people feel the council ought to be doing, what it is doing right and how it can improve.

A street stall will also be set up in the town centre over the next few months to ensure as many people as possible are given the chance to have their say.

Labour leader David Cartwright said: "Groups of people, including Redditch MP Jacqui Smith, will be going out to every part of the town with a questionnaire.

"We will be asking what people think about the council and how it could do more for residents. We also want to see which issues concern them most.

"The consultation will take a number of months and then after Christmas when it's all been completed, we will publish the results."

He added: "This is the most comprehensive consultation exercise that has been done by anybody.

"We are targeting more people than have been targeted before by either the council or a political party."
