ALVECHURCH bosses have had no word from the mysterious businessman who bought up the club at an auction.

Udham Kang, of Birmingham, splashed out more than £220,000 on the three-and-a-half-acre Birmingham Road land at a Villa Park auction on September 30.

Now the Alvechurch bosses have called an urgent meeting with their new landlord to discuss their tenancy at Lye Meadow.

Alvechurch secretary, Steve Denny, told The Advertiser last night: "Obviously we were disappointed in not getting the ground.

"We went there with a view to buying it after it was valued at about £100,000, which could have been manageable with the directors putting up a deposit, and then the club taking out a commercial mortgage.

"Obviously this man has got his own interests but the fact is we don't know what his interests are.

"We have to meet with him soon and hopefully agree a new lease - we're just hoping again that it will be a long-term lease."

The club had been paying £10,500 a year rent on a 10-year lease.

Alvechurch vice-chairman, Fred Evans, said he had not heard a word from the new owner since the auction a week ago.

But he also said the club were not worried about potential planning issues.

He said: "Nobody can apply for planning permission for about eight years.

"One assumes that anyone interested in buying land would do their research first and from that there's no reason to assume that football won't continue at Alvechurch."

Kang could not be contacted as The Advertiser went to Press.
