REDDITCH United chiefs are calling for the Football Association to act over a race storm with Shirebrook Town.

Reds' chairman Pat Cremin made a formal complaint to Soho Square on Monday, over Town's 'disgraceful' fans.

Cremin claims that a section of the Town crowd hurled racial abuse at United skipper Mark Taylor, Martin Myers and Nav Arshad during the FA Cup defeat in Mansfield on October 1.

Now a seething Cremin wants to see the FA force Shirebrook - who could be hit by a heavy fine - to clean up their act.

"What happened on that night was absolutely disgraceful," Cremin told the Advertiser last night.

"We have worked hard at our club to cut out things like that and other clubs up and down the country should be made to do the same.

"It's up to the FA to stamp their authority on Shirebrook which also have to take responsibility for what has happened."

He added: "There was abuse for the whole team when we got out on the pitch but the racial torments that was reserved for our black players was completely and utterly disgusting.

"The players targeted are big enough and professional enough to get on with it but why should they have to put up with it in this day and age?"

The FA are keen to stamp out the problem in the game with their Kick Out Racism campaign banners seen at Football League games up and down on the country.

It was only last month that UEFA fined the Macedonian Football Association after England players Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole were racially abused during the Euro 2004 qualifier.

No-one from the FA was available to comment as The Advertiser went to Press last night.
