BROMSGROVE Hockey Club Ladies Seconds XI got their Worcestershire League division two season off to a winning start with a 2-1 home victory over Bournville last Saturday.

Traditionally strong opposition, Bournville were sluggish to begin with and Bromsgrove were allowed to dominate the first half.

Despite forfeiting forward Amanda Johnson to the first team, the forward line adapted well to the demands made of them through rolling substitutions.

Jane Humby scored an impressive goal, starting from a midfield interception and through well-timed passes with players on the left.

This lifted the hosts' confidence and a feed from Clare Berrisford to Louise Clarke from just inside the circle made it 2-0.

Bournville placed Bromsgrove under considerable after the break pressure with Isabel Hyde making two crucial saves on the line.

A penalty corner mid way through the half allowed the visitors to claw a goal back.

Captain Berrisford was pleased with the victory but added: "I do feel that we need to look at our strategy with defensive penalty corners as this has been the main source of opposition goals to date."

Bromsgrove travel to Worcester Thirds this Saturday.
