STUDLEY police are warning residents to be wary as the nights draw in following a burglary in Middletown near the village.

The break-in last Wednesday saw a thief or thieves force a back ground-floor window and steal jewellery.

There were no apparent witnesses.

Also on the same day, Rutter's Stores in Bromsgrove Road, Studley, was the target of an attempted break-in which failed.

Village community beat officer Pc Pete Essex and his new colleague Pc Alison Colburn are working with Neighbourhood Watch to push the crime prevention message.

"Obviously it is now getting darker earlier and historically, burglary of dwellings increase at this time of year," said Pc Essex.

He recommended installing automatic light switch timers as a deterrent.

Anyone who has details of the incidents can call Alcester Police on 01789 762207 or Studley Police office in the village hall on 853620.
