WYCHAVON ramblers can now put their best foot forward thanks to grants totalling £35,000.

A footpath from Hampton Ferry to Corporation Meadow, in Evesham, is set to be repaired after it eroded from flooding.

The path will be raised and a new drainage system put in place as part of phase one of a footpaths project which starts this month.

The cash came from the Evesham Market Town Partnership, which has members from Wychavon District, Evesham Town and Worcestershire County Council, as well as Advantage West Midlands.

"This footpath will form part of a circular walk, particularly suitable for those walking their way back to health, and the less able," said Partnership chairman David Noyes.

"A network of signposts will also be put in place so walkers know how far the different stages go on for and will highlight the town's key features and attractions."

The Vale of Evesham Society initially made the application for the project to the Partnership.

"It is wonderful to see another project like this getting under way," said Society chairman Brian Barry.
