Pupils at Warndon Junior School, Worcester, enjoyed a hands-on workshop as they learnt how their counterparts during the Second World War played, ate and even washed.

Faye Little, from Worcestershire County Museum, in Hartlebury, visited the Edgeworth Close school to describe how life would have been for youngsters 60 years ago.

And the children dressed for the day of fun and learning, which was part of an interactive study of the history of the conflict.

"There was role-playing, dressing up and all sorts of artefacts that really helped bring history to life," said Year 6 teacher Linda Morgan.

"The children had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the day, as well as learning a great deal."

Even breaktime continued the theme as pupils got to grips with some of the traditional toys of the 1930s and 1940s, instead of their usual 21st Century entertainment.
