WORCESTER Operatic and Dramatic Society returns to Malvern Theatres with a production of Kiss Me Kate, just as it did 21 years ago.

Several members of the original 1982 production feature in the show, which runs from Tuesday to Saturday, October 14-18.

The show includes a classic Cole Porter score, featuring songs such as Too Darned Hot, So in Love, Another Op'nin', Another Show, Brush Up Your Shakespeare and Always True to You in My Fashion.

The play within a play portrays a cast putting on a production of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, but the stories intermingle. In a confusing yet amusing way, the estranged leading couple are eventually reunited.

The production is notable for the dedication of its musical director, John Griswold, who has been making 300-mile round trips to attend rehearsals from his home in Devon.

WODS secretary Liz Brownridge, who starred in the 1982 production at the Theatres, said it would be a lavish show.

"It's a bit different to last time, it's more updated with more modern dancing," she said. "Twenty years ago it was more old fashioned, now it's bright and lively."

The cast of 35 has been rehearsing since June.

"It's going to be an excellent show," Ms Brownridge said. "There's some wonderful singers in it and a very enthusiastic cast. It's entertaining, funny and energetic."
