MANOR Park Juniors made a flying start to the Brewin Dolphin Securities sponsored Malvern Table Tennis League Division Two season with a resounding win over CSSC Trojans.

Jack Higgs won all three singles (including coming from two sets down against Dave Backhurst) as did David Smith and together they won the doubles. Ben Salisbury won two and David Hayes saved the whitewash for Trojans.

Three wins for Stewart Moss were not enough to prevent Broadheath Belters beating Ledbury Exhaust. David Elliott and Peter Roberts each won two and the doubles and Roger Bates one for Broadheath whilst Tony Williams picked up one victory for the visitors.

Manor Park Pumas bounced back from last season's relegation with a win over YMCA Vulcans. Dave Hallam and Jon Dyke won three apiece and the doubles for Pumas. Nick Price, Beryl Shammon and Ray Holroyd won one each for the home team.

Crackpots E started the season with a home victory over Upton Ripples. Colin Dolding was unbeaten and partnered James Palmer (2) to doubles success, whilst for their opponents Pete Nash, Peter Quy and Matt Jones each won one.

The only draw of the opening week came when Poolbrook Juniors travelled to Bromyard to play Logics. Three games went to five sets, all involving Chris Daniels. He narrowly beat Anthony Wiseman and Matt Lang in singles, but then lost to them at doubles with partner Derek Craddock. John Hunt also won two and Derek one for Logics, whilst Poolbrook were indebted to two wins from Anthony and one each from Matt and Tom James.

In Division Three Abbey College and Crackpots had a real tussle that ended with them sharing the points. Three sets went to five games and the College won them all but Crackpots won four in three straight games and another in four. Henry Chan won all his singles and was supported by Henry Hung who won two for the College. Richard Cullis won two and the doubles with Ed Palmer for Crackpots and Ed and Stan Ginn each won one.

X-Police started their new season in fine form when Alan Holmes, Malcolm Dalley and Ralph Cook each won three and Malcolm and Ralph took the doubles. Geoff Burford, however, took Alan to five games and Malcolm to 13-15 in the second game and Charlie Burford won one game against Ralph Cook.

Four sets needed more than three games in Maulers win over Allsorts. Mark Griffiths won all his singles and he was partnered by Bill Nelson in successful doubles. Ray Davies, Bill Smith and Mick Halford all won two for the Maulers.

RESULTS: Poolbrook Allsorts 4, Manor Park Maulers 6; Abbey College 5, Crackpots C 5; Dukes Way Dynamos 0, X-Police 10.
