SCHOOLS could benefit from grants to boost their green credentials under plans being supported by a Malvern charity.
Ten teachers from Worcestershire schools are being asked to step forward and join a training programme to help them integrate issues like waste minimisation into the school curriculum and management.
In addition, their schools will be able to apply for grants of up to £3,000 to help fund waste minimisation and recycling projects.
The scheme is being supported by the Malvern-based charity Welcome to our Future, which is working with Worcester-shire County Council. It is supported by £60,000 from the Government's Legacy Fund and the Severn Waste Environmental Fund.
Welcome to our Future manager Sue Fyleman said: "Worcestershire households produce around 300,000 tonnes of rubbish a year, most of which ends up being buried in the ground.
"Making the next generation aware of what they can do as individuals is key if we are to turn the world around."
