MALVERN Town Football Club is in 'active discussion' with two landowners and Malvern Hills District Council over a site for its new stadium.

Richard Anson, the club's general manager, said he could not reveal the locations or any further details of the two proposed sites.

However, he assured fans that finding a new stadium was still a priority for Malvern Town.

"The topic is still at the top of the club's agenda and is one we're rigorously trying to pursue," he said.

Mr Anson said that Langland Stadium, the club's current home, has been sold to housing developers Barratt Homes, on condition that a new stadium is found before it moves out.

A spokesman for Barratt said: "Barratt is interested in the site for possible housing development, subject to the football club finding an alternative ground."

She added that it was too early for the company to consider submitting a planning application.

Lee Robson, head of community and economic development at Malvern Hills District Council, said: "As the body responsible for leisure and recreation provision in the Malvern area, we have got an interest in the health and vitality of the club."

"One of the discussions we have had with the football club was to see if there was any council-owned land for them to move to."

However, Mr Robson said that he was not aware of any such land having being found.
