RESPONSIBILITY for flowerbeds at the Pepperpot has been handed over to the Upton in Bloom committee.

Malvern Hills District Council met on Tuesday night and agreed that it would let the committee take over.

The flowerbeds have been the subject of some debate in the recent past, with Upton district councillor Mary Wilkinson claiming that the shrubs planted by MHDC were unsightly.

She was delighted at the council's decision and said: "It's the end of a ghastly tale of me trying to get Malvern Hills to do what they should have done a long time ago.

"The shrubs planted by the council were ugly and had no colour, but by next year the beds will be a jewel in our crown."

Coun Diane Rayner agreed: "The flowerbeds should be under the control of the Upton community to do what they want to with them.

"I'm glad that common sense has prevailed and the town will get the responsibility it deserves."
