HERE is a glorious celebration of tango, with all its sensuality and emotion.

Astor Piazzolla was born in Argentina and raised in New York. He was surrounded by jazz and yet tango was in his soul, cultivated in the classical form of tango nuevo we know today.

Returning to Argentina in 1955, the diversity of his seductive music makes for wonderful listening. Piazzolla has a huge catalogue of music, but it is hard to obtain copies of his recordings, so this is a gem.

Giora Fiedman was born in Argentina, in 1936, of Jewish parentage. He was encouraged to play by his father in klezmer tradition. Klezmer is a Hebrew thought, that the human body is an instrument of song and native Argentinian tango was also part of these influences.

At the age of 20, Fiedman joined the Israel Philharmonic and is acknowledged as the person singularly responsible for the resurgence of Jewish music; but, never forgetting his background, he is renowned for his interpretation of the tango.

Accompanying him here is Raul Jaurena, who joined his first tango orchestra at the age of eight. Born in Montivedeo, by the time he was 15, he was accompanist for some of the most famous tango singers.

He met Astor Piazzolla and they became friends. Later he met Giora Fiedman and it was a meeting that enhanced both of their musical lives.

Track eight, Hommage has been written by Raul for Giora in honour of his friend Astor Piazzolla. With a slow deliberate start it swoops in to a lyrical and yet dynamic track.

The clarinet wails at times, but the emotion it engenders is brilliant. Although written as a tribute to tango it also has a feel of the 'hora' to parts of it, which wouldn't be amiss at a traditional Jewish wedding.
