LETTERS from parishioners were read at a meeting of Staunton Parish Council regarding the condition of Mill Lane which was described as a disgrace. The matter is to be looked on as a priority. Coun Tony Fardon asked that the council press for resurfacing, Coun John Luard disagreed and thought they should conserve money.

The 1st Staunton & Corse Scouts have varnished the seat in Ledbury Road and a letter of thanks is to be sent to them.

District nurse Barbara Hill who will be retiring this autumn after 28 years of nursing in this area alone. I have personal memories of Barbara as, she together with the other members of the nursing staff attended two members of my family. The companion dog show held at Corse and Staunton playing field on a lovely summer day was an outstanding success with over £450 being raised for the Rotweiler Welfare Fund and GSD Rescue. Over 40 dogs were entered in the 15 classes with the biggest section being the best local dog with 21 entries. The judge was Miss Jeanette Vennear (Bryul) assisted by Kelly Williams. The organisers would like to thank all the generous sponsors, the playing field committee for arranging the bar and barbecue and the village hall for the use of their car park and to all who sponsored the event. It is hoped it will become an annual event.

Corse church is holding a grand jumble sale in Corse & Staunton Village Hall on Saturday, October 18, at 2pm. These days jumble sales are not just jumble and this is no exception when there will be a cake stall, white elephant, plant and also crafts stall. Suitable items would be welcomed, cakes included so if you have any saleable items for any of the stalls please let any PCC member know and they will make arrangements to collect. The village firework party and pig roast is being held on Saturday, October 18, at Staunton & Corse School, with gates opening at 6pm. Admission is £2.50 adults, £1 children aged 5-11 years.
