POLICE chiefs are delighted with the success of an ethnic recruitment drive held at an Indian restaurant earlier this week.

According to Worcester police, more than 50 people made inquiries about joining West Mercia Constabulary during the event held at Pasha restaurant in St John's on Monday night.

Would-be recruits were given the opportunity to talk to a variety of officers over an Indian buffet during the three-hour drop-in session set up by police in a bid to woo ethnic minority recruits.

Delighted

"We have a large Muslim population within the city and yet no Muslim police officers or staff," said Chief Insp Sharon Gibbons of Worcester police.

"The evening was a relaxed way of allowing those people who are interested and want to know more to come along in a 'no pressure' atmosphere to pick up information to help them decide whether the police is the right career option for them."
