A Thirty-three metre high radio mast could be erected at the back of the Evesham Tesco store following negotiations with Network Rail and Wychavon District Council.

Evesham railway station was originally chosen as the site for the mast, but the proposals were altered following concerns raised over the visual impact of the mast.

At an Evesham Town Council planning and general purposes committee meeting this week, councillor Josephine Sandalls said: "I suggest we write to Network Rail saying we do not agree with the initial site, but we do agree with the second one."

Coun Roma Kirke said: "A lot of people who were complaining about the original site were concerned not just with its height, but also the health implications."

As both plots are on Network Rail land, the railway does not have to apply for planning permission for the mast, part of a digital system to provide secure driver to signal communication.

The committee resolved to write to Network Rail informing its objection to the original site, but its support for the second one.
