A GROUP of 50-somethings dealing with their "mid-life crisis" in a novel way play their second gig since reforming after 20 years tomorrow.

Phaze2 - the new incarnation of popular Wyre Forest band Haze, who formed in the 1970s and split up in the early 80s - will be in action at Kidderminster's Chainwire Club.

Their comeback in May after a two-decade hiatus proved a big draw after the five members - all the "wrong side of 50", according to keyboard player Terry Hughes - shunned the tradition of buying a sports car in favour of reforming the band. Pop and rock from the likes of Mike and the Mechanics, The Monkees and Focus will be the order of the day tomorrow evening at the club, in Zortech Avenue off Stourport Road.

Friend of the band John Dunstall said of the May gig: "Arriving at 7.30pm, there were few people around and there was some concern that the turn-out would be poor.

"No worries on that score! By 8pm the room was filling up and extra chairs were being found from side rooms and stores.

"By 8.30pm, there was standing room only and the room was full to capacity.

"The band played three sets of 45 minutes, and I have seen world famous at top venues play half that time."

The original line-up has been depleted as singer Margo has since emigrated, but the remaining members - Terry, bassist Paul Mountain, drummer Dickie Hughes, Dave Bradley on guitar and singer Roger Hughes - are all present and correct.

Mr Dunstall added: "All sorts of catchphrases were mooted for this event. 'Wrinkle Rock' and 'Crock Rock' were suggested, and I have to confess I was guilty of such thoughts myself.

"At the end of the day, all five can rest secure in the knowledge that a room full of people had a great evening, listening to some good music.

"Some of the audience were not even born when the band last played, but they too really enjoyed the show."
