GOOD-time musicians will swing into Kidderminster this Monday for a fun-filled evening of jazz.

Bev Pegg and his Good Time Jazz Gang are the third act to perform in Aggborough Jazz's autumn programme and guarantee "a load of laughs and superb musicianship" according to the events' organisers at Kidderminster Harriers.

Following hot on the heels of The Eagle Jazz Band and Zenith Hot Stompers, their debut performance at Harriers' Aggborough Suite will include popular music from the 1920s and 1930s.

Hagley-based singer/guitarist and banjo player Bev Pegg, who also performs solo stand- up comedy, said he was looking forward to the concert where he would also practise his comedy routine.

"We will be performing classic songs like It Had to be You and Keep Young and Beautiful and there will also be a Bing Crosby spot," the 61-year-old said.

The musician, who has appeared on radio and television alongside Jasper Carrot, George Melly and Robert Plant, went on: "I don't tell jokes but talk to the audience about things that happen in every day life between songs and generally get some laughs."

Other members of the six-piece band, which is also set to perform a charity concert in aid of McMillan Nurses at Hagley Community Centre on Saturday, include trumpeter John Burnett, clarinet player and saxophonist Norman Field, pianist Roger Heeley, drummer Ken Wright and double bass player Len Thwaites.

"Fortunately our concert on Saturday has nearly sold out, so perhaps those who can't come can catch us at Aggborough," Bev added.
