STOURPORT Swifts boss Dave Titterton is to make an audacious bid to quickly tempt Stewart Hadley out of early retirement.

The forward, best remembered for scoring Kidderminster Harriers' first Football League goal against Torquay, has ripped up his contract at Worcester.

Hadley, 29, feels he is fighting a losing battle with fitness and injury due to Achilles problems.

But Titterton believes Hadley, who left Aggborough in December 2001, would be a great addition to the Dr Martens Western Division team's ranks.

He is keen to rekindle the bustling front man's enthusiasm for the game.

The Swifts boss revealed: "Stewart is one of our targets. I need to speak to him to see what his thoughts are on coming here."

With Swifts having a free weekend, Titterton took in seven games over the course of two days on scouting missions.

But he has ended his interest in Tamworth midfielder Phil Trainer ahead of Saturday's FA Trophy preliminary round clash.

Swifts visit Western Division rivals Halesowen Town, looking to avenge a 2-0 league defeat.

Centre-back John Newall is still rated as "very doubtful" due to his knee injury, as is midfielder Kerry Giddings.

Titterton added: "It would be nice to go there and turn over a big team. That's what our intentions are.

"It will be another local derby with a big crowd. Halesowen are on a bit of a roll but I feel we can beat anybody at this level on our day."

Swifts will look to quash the threat of lively winger Simon Hollis and experienced target man Mark Hallam.

Their game with Gloucester on Friday, October 10, has been cancelled due to the visitors' FA Cup involvement.

Swifts are trying to arrange another league game.

Meanwhile, Swifts youth team won 2-0 last Wednesday at Bromyard in the Midland Floodlit League Southern Division.
