PLANS to demolish two detached houses and replace them with a block of flats have been slammed as out of character and likely to create traffic chaos at a busy Kidderminster road junction.

David Wilson Homes has applied to Wyre Forest District Council to knock down two houses on Sutton Park Road and replace them with 43 one and two-bedroom apartments.

But Bob Vickers, also of Sutton Park Road, said the block would "totally dominate the properties around the proposed development".

And he warned that the extra traffic going to and from the block would lead to longer queues at the junction with Bewdley Hill and result in more accidents.

"There would probably be at least 43 cars - and could be up to 86 - regularly driving in and out of the flats which would be just yards away from the junction.

"How anybody could propose such a development leading into a traffic situation like the one that exists there beggars belief," added Mr Vickers.

District council principal development control officer Julia Summerfield said the application had only just been submitted and it was unlikely highways officers would have undertaken a traffic study yet.

A spokesman for David Wilson homes said: "We are keen to have a development in this desirable area of Kidderminster where there is a demand for this type of property."
