MAKING spurious comments often and loud do not make them right, N Taylor, and blaming the ills of a society on a minority has been used before with tragic results.

I also notice that although I am accused of "puff and wind" I still notice that there is still no rational argument to back up the proposition put forward that immigrants are to blame for increased house building and car usage.

If you would look at the data from the National Statistical Office, which is available on the internet, it shows that:

1. Worcester is 97.9 per cent white.

2. The growth in the population of the UK is mainly due to net natural change (more births than deaths).

3. Half of those in the top fifth had two or more cars. i.e. the better off are unlikely to be immigrants.

4. With have an ageing population that means increased numbers living alone and using cars.

5. Increased single occupancy of dwellings due to divorce and separation.

6. Increased households having more than one car.

7. Non-Christians make up approximately one per cent of the population of Worcester.

8. The major movement of people into Worcester is internal migration.

Let us remember that we are all descendants of immigrants to this island and that the overwhelming majority of immigrants have a positive impact on the life of this country. Immigrants and ethnic minorities have increased our culinary diversity, fought for us, and improved our economy and generally contributed to our culture.
