ON his 80th birthday, my friend, who incidentally was one of the first troops to enter Belsen during the Second World War, received notice of prosecution for travelling at 35mph.
He was fined £60 and awarded three penalty points on his driving licence.
Another ex-serviceman, an 80-year-old known to me, was recently robbed near his home.
He was brutally-treated and had his wallet stolen, his glasses being broken during the atrocity.
Rather than their apparent pre-occupation with political correctness and other minority groups within the service, ought not our Police Service be heeding the voices of commonsense and be recruiting and training paid part-time police officers?
A strategy could then be developed for combating the activities of the street savages that infest our towns and cities - in preference to tackling soft targets, like my old ex-sapper friend!
