WORCESTER men went into their final warm-up game before the start of the DTZ Midlands Premier Hockey League against Stourport who are two leagues higher.

After five minutes a break into the Worcester circle saw Stourport rewarded with a controversial penalty stroke which ex-Evesham player Mark Moss failed to convert.

The home side went 1-0 up when they converted a short corner midway through the half.

Worcester responded within five minutes after an excellent run by Lee Irish wasn't picked up by the defence and he drew the keeper and slipped the ball to Simon Miles to level the scores.

After half time Stourport began to exert themselves more on the game, but fine defending from Adam Pusey, Charlie Wright and James Cosh in particular kept them at bay.

The home side went 2-1 up when they converted another short corner, but within minutes Worcester had a short corner which Chris Adams scored from.

Stourport won the game with yet another short corner.

Worcester travel away to Khalsa in their first league game on Saturday.

Stourport took the lead after 10 minutes, against the run of play.

Thereafter Worcester slowly took control. A tap-in from Rob Allen and a wonderful short corner flick from Wrightson saw Worcester go into the interval with a 2-1 advantage.

They began the second half with some excellent play and dominated the half. An outstanding goal from Johnson following a superb flowing move from def-ence to attack gave Worcester an unassailable advantage.

The last 15 minutes saw goals from Ball and Steer to confirm an outstanding victory.

Worcester outplayed their opposition throughout in the midfield area, credit going to Hooper, Quinn, Clinton and Wilson for their tireless work rate.

The decisive moment, however, came after a Stourport attack resulted in the ball falling to the opposition centre forward two yards out, allowing him the simplest of tasks to score.

The breakthrough came half way through the first half, Andy Hores slotting home after good work down the left. Stourport equalised soon after with a well taken goal.

Worcester regained the lead shortly before half time, Ewan Bell directing the ball into an empty net from a short corner.

The second half was a tighter affair with both teams going close. It was Worcester though who increased their lead with Gerry Ogle sending the ball past the keeper.

Worcester made the breakthrough seven minutes before half time when Kev Oliver passed to John Mc-Cloed who sent in a shot which the keeper saved and Phil Jones picked the ball up to bang home the first.

The second half began with Worcester turning on the heat with Phil Jones scoring.

They started to gel when Stourport's first goal came from a penalty corner.

The second came from an unchallenged player to lift it past the keeper. Then lightning did strike twice and Stourport were awarded a penalty flick 3-2. Then they hit home a fourth.

Worcester made the worst possible start by conceding a soft goal within minutes.

They quickly rec-overed and went on to play some excellent hockey.

Worcester's pressure resulted in a series of short corners, two of which were converted into goals.

In the second half Stourport hit back strongly and scored a second but Worcester rallied and some fluid passing brought two superb goals.

BLOXWICH 3rds 6

The first half generated several short corners but Bloxwich failed to convert, but at half time they were 1-0 up.

The second half saw some manic defence and build up from Worcester, resulting in consistent pressure and mid-field gaps that Bloxwich exploited and their second team centre forward finishing up with four goals.

Worcester had several flashes of stylist play, but Bloxwich finished up worthy winners.
