A LOT of hard work needs to be done if Kidderminster Carolians are to rediscover their edge after another defeat at the weekend.

KCs slumped 59-9 at Burton in Midlands Three West (North) and have lost all four games so far this season.

Burton played well and took full advantage of a visiting side who had little idea how to stop the flow of tries.

KCs took the lead with an Andy Stooksbury penalty on seven minutes and he added another on 19 minutes.

But by the time of the second kick Burton had registered a converted try and a penalty.

The home side added two more unconverted tries to lead 20-6 at the interval before a long procession of tries in the second half.

Stooksbury kicked his third penalty on 46 minutes but that was the last score in KCs favour.

Burton clinched an early converted try and followed that up with five more tries, two conversions and a penalty.

On Saturday at Marlpool Lane, KCs entertain Burntwood who will take some holding after beating Dixonians 61-0 last weekend.

A big crowd is expected for Vice President's Day and maybe that will inspire the team.

KCs 2nds 17 Bromsgrove 3rds 6

KCs started their defence of the Merit Table title with a good win, despite conceding two penalties in the first 15 minutes.

They settled after 20 minutes with the pack dominating and a jinking run by Russell Slater resulted in a try.

KCs found their feet in the second period and winger Owen Jones showed his speed with numerous runs.

Fly-half Iain Crockett sliced through the defence to score on the hour and Brett Toole converted, while Chris Wright showed good handling skills as the forwards made inroads.

Slater capped a fine display with a second try and only poor finishing denied them more.

Bromsgrove 4ths 3 KCs 3rds 3

Despite KCs camping in the Bromsgrove half for long periods, the score remained 0-0 at the interval.

Lawrence Potter did well in the second half as KCs defended well.

New fly-half Lawrence Round kicked a penalty to level in the dying moments.
