BOWLING: Jim Bailey completed a successful year at the Chester Road club by scooping a third trophy in the mixed triples final.

He teamed up with his successful county veteran partner Dave Tipper and Margaret Tipper to meet wife, Jean Bailey, Tom Jones and Dennis Wrighte.

The Tippers and Jim Bailey forged ahead in the first five ends without allowing their opponents any chance to score.

At 14-2 after only nine ends, the commanding lead crept up to 14 shots at the 15th when the game was conceded.

Jim Bailey now holds the unique record of winning the singles, pairs and mixed triples trophies in the same year which coincides with the closing of the club's century celebrations. Jean Bailey was again ladies' singles champion.

Meanwhile, the club finished the season in the Redditch Triples League by winning the Spencer Cup, contested over several months in the knock-out eliminator competition.

In the final at Hewell, near Redditch, the team, led by Anthony Taylor, beat Charford, Bromsgrove, with a 20-shot margin, only losing on one rink.

It was a different story in the Central Stairlifts Knockout trophy semi-final when Gilt Edge beat Chester Road by 30 shots.

Edge went into the final as holders to beat an experienced Vines Park, Droitwich, squad on all four rinks and by 70 shots.
