SAILING: Trimpley Sailing Club prospect Alison Young has had a busy and impressive summer in her laser radial boat.

The Bewdley teenager was pleased with a fine display at the World and European Laser Radial Youth Championships at Lake Garda, Italy.

Young also finished fifth overall and second female at the National Schools Sailing Association regatta in Weymouth from 59 competitors.

She was second female and 19th overall out of 68 boats in the Laser National Inland Championships at Bewl Valley Sailing Club which was restricted to one day due to a lack of wind.

Young added a sixth-place finish among the females at the Laser National Championships at Largs where she was also 43rd out of 116.

But the major event was world and European event in Italy which saw 284 sailors from 28 countries competing over a week.

Young was put into the silver fleet after three days and ended up 54th after two further days of racing.

She was ninth female in the world contest and seventh in the European, giving her a good result to build on.

The Wyre Forest girl will continue to race during the autumn and train in the winter with the RYA youth squad in preparation for next year's programme.
