SKIPPER Adam Willis believes Kidderminster Harriers' players restored some self-belief at Huddersfield after Saturday's heaviest Division Three defeat at Hull.

The 6-1 shocker was described by summer signing Willis as "demoralising to say the least" but the 1-0 defeat in West Yorkshire gave renewed cause for optimism.

The centre-half continued: "On Saturday we tried to contain Hull but obviously that did not work so we went to Huddersfield aiming to be more professional.

"We know we are not the worst side in the world and we know the bad run can't go on forever.

"Once you lose confidence everything becomes a struggle and you find yourself being a bit too deliberate."

Midfielder Danny Williams had Harriers best chance with a downward header that bounced over the crossbar.

Willis, one of Harriers players of the season so far, added: "Danny did everything right with the header. He headed it downwards and back where it came from but he just gave it too much.

"We are going through a bad spell and your self-belief goes. We have two big games coming up against Carlisle and Southend and you can't stop the rollercoaster. We just have to work hard to get it right."

Manager Ian Britton admitted: "I am the manager and the buck stops with me but I didn't miss the two or three chances at Huddersfield. I did not concede the goal.

"People tend to forget that the players will go too if someone else comes in."

Britton said he was disappointed over how the goal came about and added: "It was a straight ball at our defence and we failed to deal with it.

"It was another really poor goal to concede but that has been our problem this season.

"We did battle and we were far more committed and we need the luck to be with us.

"John Williams had a great chance, Bo had one in the second half and Danny Williams headed into the ground. That summed it up for us."
