AN ASSISTANT ranger with a passion for sketching Worcestershire's wildlife is holding a workshop for artists of all abilities.

Malvern-based Trevor Smith, a city council ranger by day and artist by night, has also written a 160-page book on drawing animals - with a foreword by Bill Oddie - and held numerous exhibitions.

He is now preparing to pass on his talents to wildlife artists of all ages at a three-hour workshop on Saturday, October 25.

"The aim of the workshop is to acquaint artists with the basic techniques of sketching on site as well as the more specialised techniques for recording birds and animals," said Mr Smith.

"Anyone can paint and draw if they really want to and the day should help would-be artists gain an interest in the subject and begin to understand it."

Though Mr Smith has made a name as an artist in watercolours and acrylics, the workshop is centred on drawing with soft graphite and charcoal pencils.

The workshop will run from 10am until 1pm at Christopher Whitehead High School, in Bromwich Road, St John's, Worcester.

Materials will be provided but outdoor footwear is essential, as sketching will take place on nearby Chapter Meadows.

Advance booking is required, on 01905 722328, and the session costs £2.
