ALVECHURCH Parish Councillors will be asked next Monday to consider holding a referendum over a controversial village development.

Clerk Gill Lungley said the council had been approached by a resident to carry out the referendum to find out whether people were for or against the extension to St Laurence's Church - despite the fact the plans have already been passed.

The Advertiser reported in July Worcester Diocese had given the proposal the green light - but people had objected to the design of the modern hall, which will sit beside the ancient church.

The sale of a plot of land to fund the project also created uproar but permission was also granted to build five houses on the land off School Lane.

Work is likely to be completed next year.

The Alvechurch Parish Council meeting is place at Hopwood Community Centre from 7.30pm.
