THE town's new kerbside recycling scheme is to be rolled out to other districts this month.

The collection scheme has already been running in some parts but is now due to start in Matchborough West and Woodrow North, taking in another 2,000 homes.

Residents there will be able to recycle all types of paper, bottles, cans, foil or clothing.

The scheme is carried out on a weekly basis on the same day as normal refuse collections, but using a different vehicle so that collected materials can be reprocessed quickly.

One fifth of the town is already part of the scheme and so far 150 tonnes of rubbish has been recycled.

Environmental services manager Guy Revans said: "Residents can reduce the amount of rubbish that they throw away by up to a third, simply by separating their rubbish and recycling.

"Almost 150 tonnes of material has already been recycled by Redditch residents.

"By having a weekly collection on the same day as the normal refuse collection we're sure that we have made the scheme as easy as possible, so that we get as much support as possible from householders."

The scheme will allow Redditch to reach its recycling target for this financial year of 10 per cent.

Those residents not covered by the household recycling collection scheme can use 20 recycling centres located around the borough.
