A BROMSGROVE woman is asking the planning inspector to step in and help her fulfil her dream of opening a boarding house for cats.

Sandra Cupples-Taylor has had her application turned down by the district council on highways grounds. Their reason is that the visibility at the end of her 30-foot drive leading onto Astwood Lane, Stoke Prior, does not comply with regulations.

"I like cats and it's been a dream of mine to open a cattery," said the 42-year-old, who works in health care in Droitwich.

"I've been trying to get this plan passed for almost a year now. Everything is up in the air and if the appeal is turned down, there's nothing I can do."

Mrs Cupples-Taylor applied to put 10 pens at the back of the house she shares with roofing contractor husband Paul and 15-year-old daughter Victoria. She said that would make room for a maximum of 26 cats and the number of vehicles using the drive would be very limited.

She has also offered to set up her own delivery service for the cats but her plan still hasn't met with approval.

"There is no problem with the pens because they overlook fields," she said. "It's absolutely ludicrous. I have spoken to the neighbours and there has never been an accident on this road.

"I can't take out the bank to improve the visibility because cars really would speed down the lane. It would be a death trap."

The Planning Inspectorate is due to make a decision at a later date.
