A HONEYMOON spent in Blackpool is just one of many happy memories shared by a Rubery couple who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last Friday.
Arthur and Kath Harris, of Windmill Avenue, marked 50 years of wedded bliss by exchanging cards and gifts and enjoying a family meal.
Catshill-born Arthur met Kath in 1947 when he was on leave from the army. At the time she was working in Lickey End Post Office, a job she kept for 12 years. They tied the knot at All Saints Church in Burcot Lane in 1953 and for a short time lived with relatives in Old Birmingham Road before moving to their current home.
Arthur, now 76, worked for exactly 50 years at the Austin Rover plant in Longbridge, while his wife brought up their three children Yvonne, Dawn and Nigel. They now also have six grandchildren.
Arthur joked: "I shall tell you what I wrote in the anniversary card I gave to my wife. It said 'fifty years of misery but I would do it all again'." A family party is planned for the end of next month.
