IN reply to my good friend David Barlow, ex-leader of Worcester City Council, ex-ruling Labour Councillor and a committed europhile (You Say, Thursday September 18), with geography being just one of my weaknesses, I did foolishly think that Germany was in Europe.

My hero is the great leader Winston Churchill, who successfully led the British people against both the Nazis and Japanese, giving us the freedom we all today enjoy.

And yes, Churchill's vision on Europe was one of a United Europe, but with Britain existing alongside as trading nation.

His vision of a united Europe was one of hope and bringing a peace to a continent that has seen much warfare. This may still succeed.

BRIAN HUNT,

Worcester.
