WOODRUSH attacked from the start of this North Midlands One derby clash but found the home defence in defiant mood.

And it was the Hopwood side that opened the scoring after 16 minutes with the first of John Hefford's three tries following a back row move involving flanker Richard Revell and No 8 Mark Waudby.

Ten minutes later John's brother Martin, playing at scrum half, followed his own kick ahead and touched down to keep the scoring in the family. Captain Pete May converted.

The visitors got onto the scoresheet with an excellent penalty kick by full back Martin Leech to complete the first half points.

Kings Norton's stronger pack began to dominate and Waudby scored a pushover try soon after the restart.

Woodrush stuck gamely to their task but the home side's defence was rarely troubled and winger Hefford countered with two more tries, the last being set up on his debut by replacement winger Tom Howell-Jones with May kicking the extra points.

Man of the match was prop Kevin Edwards.

The Hopwood side completed a whitewash over their opponents with the 2nds edging home 31-26.

Kings Norton take on Cleobury Mortimer at Ash Lane on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3pm.
