DEAR EDITOR -- It is disappointing to see a petition circulating in shops in Barnt Green requesting the parish council and Bromsgrove District Council to find more parking before putting up bollards to prevent parking on pavements.
How can these two issues be linked?
Preventing people driving and parking on the pavement is a safety issue.
I myself have twice been hit by inconsiderate motorists on the pavement. There is a junior school in the centre of the village. Is the safety of the children and pedestrians not paramount?
Residents, police and the council have had many meetings in recent years and have consistently supported bollards as the only way to stop inconsiderate motorists who will not use the parking facilities already provided.
Let us hope people who consider signing the petition think about what they are doing, and let us hope the council quickly provides bollards as agreed.
