THE Northfield Starlets Veterans held their Tuesday contest on Woodland View's Deans pool where Bewdley matchman Stan James headed a strong line-up.

Pole fishing casters and maggots up in the water at peg 61 he put together a mainly Carp catch of 82-10-0. Runner-up Roger Banfield (Stourport) had 73-2-0 and third placed Ken Giles (Alvechurch) had 53-5-0.

Also at Woodland View, the Tuesday affordable open was fished on Barley and Hay pools. The winner was Terry Robson (20 AC) who poled corn and meat at Barley peg 11 for 81-9-0. Second was Dick Partridge (West Mids Police) with 78-0-0 and third, Mark Westwood's (Peg One Woodlands) 68-0-0.

On Wednesday, the Woodland View's over 50s event went to John Dowell (Causeway AC) with a pole and corn catch of 73-0-0 from High pool peg 22. Tim Guise (Mosella Slapheads) followed with 62-8-0; third, Paul Foster (Blackheath), 49-12-0.

At Astwood Fisheries the Bluebell pool open was won by Rob Francis (Droitwich Angling Centre) with 105-15-8, of Carp taken with pole fished corn from peg seven. Brian Williams (Astwood) was second with 43-8-8 and third, John Halfpenny (Astwood), taking 40-8-0.

The Moorlands Farm Meadow pool open was a big scoring event for Nigel Davis (Worcester PO) when he pole fished catmeat at peg 30 for a 141-11-0 Carp haul. Second was Pete Short's (Midland Leisure) 129-10-0 with third going to Harry Ward (Moorlands) with 96-9-0.

Thursday saw the KH Veterans at Willow Marsh's Dragonfly pool and it was Alan Ryan (Worcester) who showed the way by pole fishing chopped worms at peg 25 for a mixed 24-8-0 catch. Brian Hill (Stourport) was a close second with 22-0-0; third, Mick Cluley (Wales), 15-14-0.

The Midland Bears AA were at Broad Acres' main lake for their latest event. New member Dave Evans (Shirley) proved a force to be reckoned with when he pole fished casters at peg 47 to take a mainly Roach catch with four Carp to scale in at 44-5-0. Second, John Warman (Charford), took 33-9-0 while third was Tony Harrop's (Manchester) 29-0-8.

Moorlands Farm's Friday costcutter open was won by David James (R&D) with a 119-11-0 catch taken with pole fished corn from the margins of Meadow pool peg 49. Davis (Worcester PO) slipped into second place with 87-5-0; third, Mick Henshall (Fosters MG), 77-5-0.

The Woodland View's afternoon open was held on High Pool with some big catches recorded. Out in front was Kevin Slade (Colmic) with a whopping 190-12-0 of Carp by pole fishing corn and meat at peg 8. Eddie Jones (Rudgley) followed with 175-3-0 and Adrian Mason (Woodlands) in third with 115-9-0.

Saturday's Woodland Views Deans pool open went to Sean McCarthy (Pill Angling) with 109-11-0 from peg 22 where he poled chopped worms and casters. Second, Richard Lawson (Colmic), had 104-0-0 and Paul Foster (Blackheath) took 81-11-0 for third.

At Broad Acres the main lake open was topped by Steve Brelsforth (Triplex) by pole fishing the margins of peg eight with sweetcorn for 53-15-0. Dave Evans (Solihull Angling) was second, taking 48-9-0; third, Pete Skidmore (Solihull Angling), 23-8-8.

There were eight ton-up catches recorded at the Moorlands Farm open. Leading the score sheet was Stuart Pulsar (DGL) with a 185-10-0 Carp haul by alternating casters, corn and worms up in the water at Meadow peg 40. Runner-up Dave Jordan (Fosters MG) had 127-7-0 from Bank peg 24 with third going to Henshall's (Fosters MG) 124-4-0.

Sunday's Moorlands Farm open produced a tight result with Alan Grainger (Tackle Box) showing the way by short pole fishing corn at Meadow pool peg 57 for 81-6-0. John Cockayne (Fosters Tipton) was second with 80-13-0; third, Ian Whitehouse (Strike Angling), 76-1-0.

The BAA Canal Team Championships saw 27 teams of five compete on the Staffs/Worcs Canal between Botterham and Gothersley. Leading his club to victory was Kevin Clark (Cradley Heath Labour Red) who pole fished chopped worm and casters at the first peg past the cables at Botterham lock for a mainly Chub catch for 7-15-8. Runner-up Dave Anderson (Good Intent Red) was at the next peg and just missed out with 7-14-0; third, Mick Weston (Good Intent Green) 7-1-0.

Cradley Heath Red took the championship with 30 points with Good Intent Red and Swan AC in joint second with 37.

Kings Norton AS held its sixth aggregate contest on Astwood Fisheries Buddleia pool. Taking a clear victory was Cofton Hackett top rod John Swain who pole fished corn and pellets at peg 80 for 25-4-0 of small Carp. Second, Dennis Masters, had 12-4-0; third, John Miller, 8-10-0.

Rounding off the weekend was the Woodland View's Deans pool open where Mike Jones (Mosella Slapheads) took a top catch of 118-5-0 by pole fishing chopped worms and casters from peg 61. Second was Steve Mortlock (Peg One Woodlands) with 85-6-0 and third, Sean McCarthy (Pill Angling), taking 81-5-0.
