BROMSGROVE Rovers seem to revel in FA Cup away days.

In three consecutive fixtures - at Cradley, Studley and now Hednesford Town - George Rooney's side have scored seven goals and not conceded any.

Last Saturday's surprise victory at Dr Martens Premier outfit Hednesford was arguably Rovers best performance of the season.

Second half strikes from livewire Mark Atkinson and midfielder Danny Scheppel secured Rovers' safe passage.

Although Hednesford were quite frankly awful, Rovers could only play was what in front of them. And they did that with confidence.

Defensively they dealt with everything the Pitmen threw at them and they won most midfield battles.

The visitors can also count themselves unlucky not to have been ahead on five minutes when Mark Benbow whipped a left wing free-kick straight into Ryan Young's goal. Referee Mr A Newbold gave the goal before a linesman ruled a Rovers player was carelessly standing offside.

Rovers applied all the early pressure and were given extra confidence with goalkeeper Young unable to catch the ball anywhere within his penalty area for much of the game.

Peter Sutton was the beneficiary of one such mistake but he blazed wide from six yards, summing up Rovers' need for extra presence up front.

Hednesford though did have their moments and enjoyed their best spell midway through the half.

Nathan Lamey wasted their best chance by letting the ball trickle through to Rovers stopper Paul Wyatt from close range. Karl Brown also curled an effort past the post minutes later.

Rovers took a deserved lead on 62 minutes. Marcus Jackson, with his first real contribution of the match, stretched his legs and easily passed all in his path to win a corner. The resulting kick was controlled by skipper Steve Pope and he teed the ball up for Atkinson to fire home from eight yards.

They extended their lead 12 minutes later. Young was once again at fault as he failed to hold on to Beckett's close range shot and Scheppel was on hand to bundle the ball in and send players and fans alike into delirium.

From there Rovers simply wound down the clock as Hednesford, resigned to defeat, gave up save for a tame Chris Brindley header.
