Alcester and Ragley won the Griffiths Cup with a 36-run victory over Birlingham.

Alcester won the toss and batted but soon lost two wickets to Martin Downes (2-27), before Mathew Greenway (117) put Birlingham to the sword, taking the total to 244-8.

Andy Howorth (41) Alex Harrison (43) and Rob Drake (42) kept Birlingham in the hunt but having been 177-3 they slipped to 208 all out. Greenway won the Duncan Fearnley voucher for man of the match.

Birlingham ended their season with a 75-run victory over Cheltenham Civil Service in a 40-over friendly.

Andy Howorth (88) and Dave Powell (25) put on 75 for the first wicket and then James Styles (60) and Howorth had a century stand for the second wicket as Birlingham totalled 230-3.

In reply Brian Howorth took 3-17 from eight overs and Martin Webb (2-36) supported well as Cheltenham were all out for 155.

The Fossils brought their season to a close with a splendid match between John Reynolds' Captain's XI and vice-captain Pete Tudge's XI.

Barry Briscoe (101) and Brian Scott 49 helped Tudge's team reach 225-4 in 43 overs. Briscoe hit 11 fours and six sixes in an excellent innings.

But Reynolds' team reached their target in 34 overs for the loss of two wickets thanks to an exciting opening partnership of 201 by Keith Middleton (102) and Tony Williams (79).

The Fossils lost their way when on a victory charge at Exhall and had to settle for a draw.

Mike Gwynn (51) and Steve Hollands (41) put on 71 before David Pugh removed both in the same over. Reynolds took 1-28 in 10 overs and Williams' leg-spin took two wickets as Exhall declared on 187-7.

Fossils started slowly but Brian Hancock (57) and 20s from Graham Woodbridge and Pugh put Fossils in with a chance. Exhall's fast bowlers then returned to rip out five Fossils and they had to shut up shop on 161-8.
