Review - The Play What I Wrote at the Festival Theatre, Malvern.

THIS celebration of possibly Britain's greatest comedy duo, Morecambe and Wise, was a festival of fast-fire shoot-from-the-hip gags and one-liners what had the audience laughing almost from start to finish.

I don't think anyone in the audience, if they hadn't seen the play before, knew just what to expect as we settled back in our seats.

What we got was another comedy duo, Joseph Alessi and Toby Sedgwick, trying not to be Morecambe and Wise, - part of the plot - but succeeding in bringing back vivid memories of Eric and Ern in their heyday.

And great is what it was. Written and created by Hamish McColl, Sean Foley and the man behind much of M and W's work, Eddie Braben, this comedy fairly hums along - hardly leaving enough of a pause to let the laughter die down.

All this and a star guest too.....on this occasion Honor Blackman, playing the straight role in one of those famous plays like what Ern wrote in his prime.

It has to be seen to be believed and to be enjoyed.

It's coming to Birmingham this month. The advice is....don't miss it.
