A COURT usher made commuters look twice when he donned a red, white and blue hat for a sponsored walk to help those with cancer.

John Baker, a senior usher at Worcester Magistrates Court, walked from his Droitwich home to his work place to drum up funds for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

He has so far been pledged £585 for the charity and is hoping to top the £600 mark after the seven-mile walk, on Friday morning, which took almost two hours.

The former cancer victim decided to do the walk to show support for his fellow usher Irene Griffiths , who arranged a Macmillan coffee morning at her Drakes Broughton home.

"One of the clerks at the court loaned the top hat to me," he said.

"It made me look at bit obvious!

"I started out at 6.10am. When I got halfway to Worcester's Fernhill Heath I was met by a colleague, John Preece, with a flask of coffee."

Mr Baker was then met by colleague Emma Hemingway, who walked with him for his final two miles.

The 60-year-old discovered he had skin cancer 18 years ago when he discovered a spot on his nose, but has since been given the

all-clear.
